In July of 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic, Cora’s third child, Shamar, just 30 years old, was gunned down and killed in her Philly neighborhood for $25 and a pack of cigarettes. Shamar left behind a precious baby boy. Cora also lost two other children tragically young; all three of her kids are featured in the extraordinary original painting above. Having survived challenge after challenge, the final straw for Cora occurred as the result of something we hear of all too often—senseless GUN VIOLENCE.
Unstoppable, Cora works 50 hours a week, pandemic and all, while housing, feeding, and caring for her 72- year- old mother, four grandkids, and her daughter. Fearing more gun violence -- a drive-by shooting, a stray bullet, losing another child-- the entire family rarely leaves their small, cramped Section 8 apartment, except for Cora, the provider.
Please make a bid on the painting, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, which features Cora's angels. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to families who have suffered the direct impact of losing a family member due to gun violence and to GIFFORDS.ORG, an organization dedicated to ending gun violence. Every American should be able to live, work, and play in their community free from the threat of gun violence.
