Virginie Schroeder’s art is the product of reflection; an aesthetic intuition provoked by geometry and form. Using brushes, knives, and syringes, Schroeder fragments reality, transforming her subjects into vertical lines and thick layers of acrylic and oil paint. Beginning with a realistic sketch of her subject, she then cuts and deconstructs, laying down layers of color with a syringe and reworking them with a knife, before scraping away the excess medium to reveal the final work. The blend of colors creates contrast, vibration, and rhythm. Her art exists to intrigue, to elicit questioning, to challenge and abstract the recognizable at first glance. One must focus on a single point, then pull away, in order to appreciate the impressively detailed work in its totality.

Schroeder describes herself as greatly “emotive,” a dreamer who loves the freedom of nature, life, and the human existence. In her work, she encapsulates the charisma and elegance of human expression: “To be an artist is to be a solitary visionary who sees the beauty and love in the world, who makes emotions live and guides people to feel them. To be an artist is to share one's life, soul and heart.”
